Certified Behavior Technician

We are looking for people who are enthusiastic, playful, enjoy young children, and want to learn ABA and the strategies that work best for very young children with autism. Specialized training and ongoing support provided. Variety of hours available including mornings and afternoons Monday-Friday. The position starts as part-time with the possibility of increasing hours in the future.

The compensation range for this position is $19.41-$32.31 per hour and is based on experience level, and credentials of the candidate. Steps offers the following benefits package that promotes a healthy work/life balance:

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Communicate effectively with Executive Director, Office Manager, and coworkers.
  • Provide one-on-one intervention with children with autism ages 1-6 in home and community environments.
  • Keep clear and accurate data.
  • Create lesson plans and complete session prep work.
  • Implement behavior plans created by the BCBA.
  • Participate in the ongoing development and implementation of IFSP.
  • Schedule home visits with families and maintain list of appointments in Outlook calendar (if Available).
  • Provide written documentation of weekly sessions on the Home Visiting form.
  • Check and respond to email daily and voice mail/text messages at least twice per working day.
  • Respond to a family within the business day or within 24 hours of your scheduled workday.
  • Attend agency meetings as required by Director, weekly staff meeting.
  • Maintain compliance with FERPA AND HIPPA
  • Abide by all guidelines of the Individuals with Disability Education Act (IDEA) and Early Support for Infants and Toddlers (ESIT) to ensure the child and his/her family has access to Early Intervention Services (EIS) as identified in the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP)

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Washington State Certified Behavior Technician Credential (CBT) or willing to obtain credential before start date.
  • Experience with children ages 1-6.
  • Experience with children with autism preferred, but not required.
  • Comfort in working with individuals with challenging behaviors.
  • First Aid, Infant/Child CPR, and HIV/AIDS training
  • Commitment to designing and implementing services which respond to and support child/family needs.
  • Excellent communication skills including ability to read and express oneself clearly verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate in a supportive, non-judgmental manner to families of varying cultural, educational, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently during home visits, scheduling, meeting timelines, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish strong working relationships with families and providers.
  • Ability to multi-task, decision making, creative thinking, troubleshooting and follow-through.
  • Demonstrate basic computer competency.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Therapy services will typically be performed within the 9am-4pm time frame, but hours may vary by work demands or families’ availability.
  • Flexibility in how weekly hours is scheduled can be negotiated and approved by your supervisor. This is a year-round (12 month) position with scheduled program breaks.
  • Able to comfortably work in a variety of community settings including family homes and childcare as well as an office environment. Occasional exposure to outside seasonal weather conditions, dust and/or loud noises such as sirens, traffic congestion, animals (family pets), and/or smoke
  • Ability to access homes which may have a variety of accessibility issues including, but not limited to, steep staircases without railing, extended distance from parking to home entrance and uneven ground or obstacles in or outside of the home.
  • Therapy activities may include working on the floor, stooping, kneeling, reaching and lifting children and equipment up to 30 pounds.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Prior to employment, the successful candidate must pass a criminal background check, fingerprints, and driving record.
  • Provide proof of completion of Tdap, Varicella, MMR, Hep B, TB, COVID-19 and annual Flu vaccination
  • Remain current in training requirements as required to maintain licensure as well as meet requirements of agency contacts with ESIT, DDA and Insurance
  • Upon hire, be required to provide proof that you are either 1) A U.S. citizen or 2) An immigrant whose status permits you to lawfully work in this country.
  • Must have valid State Driver’s License, car registration, and car insurance and reliable transportation for home visits and/or meetings.
  • Within thirty days of employment (or as soon as background check has been processed): Acquire Military ID card to access both Ault Field and Seaplane Base (if applicable)
  • Complete Introductory Modules for Early Support for Infants and Toddlers and Child Outcome Summary (COS) Modules Quiz
