Welcome to Whidbey’s Nonprofit Directory

This directory is a free community resource created by the Whidbey Community Foundation to connect residents and donors with the many organizations serving our island. Inclusion does not imply endorsement or funding, and not all organizations listed are WCF grantees. We strive to keep information current and accurate. Connect & Thrive Quest Guide Volunteer

Target Start Date: Sept 2026 · Application Deadline: July 31, 2026

Become a Quest Guide — Change a Young Person's Story

Quest Guide — Volunteer Mentor Connect & Thrive Youth Mentoring Program | Positively Linked

Somewhere in Island County, a young hero is waiting for their Quest Guide. That hero could be matched with you.

Connect & Thrive is a Gold Star–accredited youth mentoring program serving school-age youth in Island County. As a Quest Guide, you'll walk alongside a young person through Risoria — our one-of-a-kind fantasy-based mentoring curriculum — helping them discover their strengths, build inner tools, and claim who they're meant to be.

This isn't about being perfect. It's about showing up consistently for a young person who needs exactly what you have to offer.

What You'll Do Meet with your matched youth for approximately 3 hours per month, following a structured yet flexible 12-month Quest journey through 10 realm stops and 8 Quest Badges — from Dragon Slayer to Wellness Warrior. You'll be supported every step of the way with training, curriculum resources, and a dedicated program coordinator.

Requirements

  • Age 21 or older
  • Commit to approximately 3 hours per month for 12 months
  • Pass a background check (provided at no cost)
  • Complete required Quest Guide training prior to match

Why It Matters The right person at the right time changes everything. Research shows that consistent mentoring relationships improve youth mental health, school engagement, and long-term outcomes. Connect & Thrive is the formally designated successor to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Island County — and the need in our community has never been greater.
