Welcome to Whidbey’s Nonprofit Directory

This directory is a free community resource created by the Whidbey Community Foundation to connect residents and donors with the many organizations serving our island. Inclusion does not imply endorsement or funding, and not all organizations listed are WCF grantees. We strive to keep information current and accurate. Orca Network is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the whales of the Pacific Northwest by fostering awareness, inspiring stewardship, and promoting healthy, safe habitats in the Salish Sea and beyond.

For over two decades, we’ve connected people with whales through education, citizen science, and hands-on involvement. Our programs include the Central Puget Sound Marine Mammal Stranding Network, the Langley Whale Center, the Whale Sighting Network, Toki’s Legacy, and ongoing education and advocacy efforts.

Get involved:

  • Visit the Langley Whale Center to explore marine mammal exhibits and enjoy our interactive underwater-themed kids room.

  • Explore and share educational resources on our website.

  • Watch free trainings on our YouTube channel or attend a session in person.

  • Stay updated on recent whale sightings by following us on Facebook.

  • Volunteer with us and help make a difference for whales and their habitats.

Orca Network primarily serves the Pacific Northwest with a focus on the Salish Sea region, including Puget Sound, the San Juan Islands, and coastal communities throughout Washington State. While our educational programs and online platforms reach audiences across the United States and internationally, the majority of our calls and in-person visits come from residents and visitors of Whidbey Island, as well as nearby areas such as Seattle, Everett, Anacortes, and the San Juan Islands. Many people connect with us through the Langley Whale Center, while others engage through our virtual resources, whale sightings network, and educational outreach.

History

Founded in 2001

Orca Network began with a simple but powerful mission: to connect people with whales in order to inspire conservation of the marine environment. Founded over 20 years ago by a small group of dedicated individuals on Whidbey Island, our organization was created in response to growing concerns about the health and survival of the Southern Resident orcas and other marine mammals in the Salish Sea.

What started as a grassroots effort to share whale sighting information and raise awareness has grown into a respected nonprofit with multiple programs, including the Whale Sighting Network, the Langley Whale Center, the Central Puget Sound Marine Mammal Stranding Network, Toki’s Legacy, and extensive education and advocacy work. Through community involvement, citizen science, and a passion for marine wildlife, Orca Network has become a trusted source for whale education, conservation efforts, and public engagement across the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
