The Heron Park Initiative
A Strategic Partnership for Local Housing
The Heron Park project stands as a testament to what can be achieved when local leadership identifies a need and acts decisively. Under the past LMSA presidency of Callahan McVay, LMSA stepped in at a critical juncture to ensure this vital community project stayed on track.
Giving the Project a "Nudge"
When Habitat for Humanity faced a funding gap during the complex permitting phase, our Board recognized an opportunity to provide a strategic "nudge." While the initiative began as a spirited internal debate, it resulted in a unique funding model that demonstrated the personal commitment of our leadership.
By the Numbers: A Community Effort
Rather than drawing solely from general operating funds, the contribution was a collective effort:
Private Generosity: Several Board members and local stakeholders contributed personal funds.
LMSA Match: The association matched these private gifts to amplify the impact.
Total Impact: A $15,000 check was delivered to Habitat for Humanity, providing the necessary capital to move the project forward.
Rain or Shine
Many long-time members may remember the "groundbreaking" ceremony roughly seven years ago. Despite a torrential downpour, the event served as a milestone for Heron Park and a proud moment for LMSA, capturing the spirit of a community that shows up, regardless of the weather.
