Our Mission: To provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Our Vision: We are a catalyst for inclusion! Special Olympics Washington is the leader in sports, inclusive health, and community building, empowering children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to be valued on and off the playing field.
Participation: Persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), regardless of ability level, are welcome to participate in sports and other programs offered by Special Olympics Washington. Individuals are eligible for training and competition at age eight and there is no upper age limit. Thousands of athletes and Unified partners take part in Special Olympics Washington activities. Worldwide, more than 5.7 million athletes compete in Special Olympics programs in 200 countries and jurisdictions.
Funding and Financial Information: Special Olympics Washington is a registered 501(c) (3) non-profit organization supported entirely by individual, corporate, government and foundation funding.
