Readiness To Learn has provided coordinated services for students and families in Island County since 1998.
Readiness To Learn is a non-profit organization in Langley, Washington that works in partnership with schools, communities and families. Our goal is to help each student reach their potential and thrive, regardless of their circumstances.
We serve families who reside within the boundaries of the South Whidbey School District.
Originally established under the leadership of Mickey Nowlin as a collaborative, state-funded consortium designed to link schools with essential human services, Readiness to Learn (RTL) has a deep history of breaking down barriers for families. From 2003 to 2026 Gail LaVassar led the organization from a state initiative into the independent, thriving 501(c)(3) nonprofit it is today.
Under this leadership, RTL has served as a vital community incubator on South Whidbey—proactively identifying critical gaps, championing local innovation, and creating sustainable solutions for children and families. RTL continues to provide an essential lifeline when families need it most. By delivering consistent, compassionate support and resources, we foster the stability necessary for students to succeed both at school and in life.
