Baby Island Saratoga Club, "BISC"
90 Years of friendship
In 1927 a group of friends from the Baby Island Saratoga area joined together to improve conditions on Whidbey Island. (Saratoga Road was a dirt road then.) They named their club "The Saratoga-Baby Island Firesiders". After many years of productive work the club was renamed "The Baby Island Saratoga Improvement Club" and was incorporated on April 18, 1952.
In 1953 a smaller version of the present clubhouse was built on Saratoga Road with funds and labor supplied by its members.
Renamed in 1982 as the "Baby Island Saratoga Club", the members still enjoy the camaraderie of friends and neighbors sharing good times, delicious food and listening to informative speakers or performances by entertaining artists.
The Baby Island Saratoga Club is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose goal remains:
Building community
Maintaining a public assembly hall
Encouraging excellence in education by providing scholarships to South Whidbey High School graduates who enter a college or trade school
When you rent our hall you are helping a South Whidbey student go to college or trade school.
Baby Island Saratoga Club primarily serves South Whidbey Island, including Langley, Freeland, Clinton, Bayview, and the surrounding communities. Our clubhouse, events, programs, rentals, scholarships, and emergency preparedness efforts are designed to serve local residents while welcoming visitors and organizations from throughout Whidbey Island and the greater Puget Sound region.
BISC's story began in 1927, when a group of friends and neighbors from the Baby Island and Saratoga area joined together to improve conditions on Whidbey Island. Saratoga Road was still a dirt road, and the group called themselves the Saratoga-Baby Island Firesiders.
After years of community work, the organization became the Baby Island Saratoga Improvement Club and was formally incorporated on April 18, 1952.
In 1953, members contributed their own money, time, and labor to build a small clubhouse on Saratoga Road. That original building grew into the gathering place our community enjoys today.
The organization was renamed the Baby Island Saratoga Club in 1982. Through the decades, generations of neighbors have gathered here for meals, meetings, celebrations, performances, friendship, and service to the community.
That legacy continues today. What began with a group of neighbors asking how they could improve their community is becoming the foundation for BISC's next chapter of service to South Whidbey.
