Development Coordinator

Orca Network is seeking a seasoned fundraiser and grant writer to join our pod. In this role, the fundraiser will use communication skills, persuasive writing, and a keen sense of initiative to find unique ways to improve fundraising systems, manage grants, and develop relationships with donors and volunteers.
From federal grant reporting to our October Online Auction event, the fundraiser will share strong speaking, writing, and leadership abilities to move Orca Network closer to its financial goals.
The ideal candidate will live within the Puget Sound region and be able to attend fundraising, granting, and networking events throughout the area. We are looking for someone who is motivated, professional, and organized. This person believes in Orca Network’s mission and has an exceptional drive for furthering fundraising efforts as well as strategizing and delivering on new ones.
Job Purpose: Lead donor communications, fundraisers, sponsorship, and grant management to meet annual funding needs.
Commitment: 25-40 hours per week.
Wage: $25/hour in addition to PTO and WA state sick time.
Reports to: Executive Director & Finance Director
Job Responsibilities Direct:
- Effectively convey the organization’s mission, vision, and programs to potential donors
- Write grant applications and manage them through the grant lifecycle through reporting and project tracking with the staff.
- Strategize and successfully execute fundraising events, appeals, and campaigns.
- Manage a budget and track whether goals are being met.
- Research new fundraising opportunities and identify individuals, corporations, and foundations that are interested in gift-giving
- Fundraising through various means to support and grow $850,000 annual operating budget.
- Manage donor database importing donations and sending acknowledgements.
- Represent as a member of the finance committee.
- Manage donation platforms (Givebutter, Paypal, Benevity, WA GIVES, etc) and keep account descriptions current on sites like Washington Gives and Benevity.
Team Responsibilities:
- Work with administrative staff to do fundraising analysis and reporting and process documentation.
- Manage granting efforts through the lifetime of foundation, federal, state, corporate, and municipal grants.
- Work with Program Coordinators to introduce fundraising to events.
- Work with Program Coordinators to manage memberships (LWC & WSN).
- Work with staff to include fundraising in social media posts.
- Work with Communications Manager to increase social media followers so we are eligible for fundraising on Instagram and YouTube.
- Co-manage fundraiser committee with Executive Director.
- Work with Program Coordinators for grant needs/content/and reporting information.
- Works with Operations Manager to define and document processes.
Responsibilities

- Send tax receipts and gift acknowledgments for donors.
- Manage a budget and track whether goals are being met.
- Commitment of 30-40 hours per week.
Skills
● At least three years of experience in fundraising for a nonprofit.
● Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in communications, business, public relations, nonprofit management, or related field.
●Competency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Suites (Especially Sheets/Excel)
● Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills with an ability to lead and motivate colleagues and volunteers
● Strong attention to detail
● Ability to successfully balance priorities while managing multiple tasks and planning big events
● Creativity and imagination, and the ability to describe and promote the unique niche that Orca Network fills within NW orca and environmental organizations.
Preferred skills and qualifications
● Familiar with online donation platforms like Paypal, Givebutter, and Benevity
● Competence with donor management system (Little Green Light, Better Impact, Givebutter)
● Experience in writing grant proposals, fundraising campaigns, and reports
● Confidence in public speaking
● Some background in the legal, financial, or accounting field is ideal.
● Experience in Quickbooks.
